of the classic Flash character talked

According to this Screenrant article, Lord and Millar state that it will be a standalone film. In
addition:
“We’re trying to break
a story. It’s interesting, because there’s a really popular TV show out there,
and we’re trying to carve out space for the movie that’s apart from that.
I think we’re doing alright… I believe [our Flash] is going to be Barry Allen…
It’s going to be it’s own [thing, apart from the TV show] — we’re more trying
to stick with the cinematic universe… it really is its own thing, and kind of a
stand-alone movie. We’re just trying to think of the best story. I think
you guys will like it, it’s kind of a different take on superhero stuff.”
I personally find this is the best that could be hoped for
in regards to this movie. I’m not really vested in the DCCU, as DC just strikes
me as a haphazard company that makes arbitrary and panicked decisions in
regards to their film and TV properties. I think that a standalone film (which
I take means that it stands alone within the DCCU, unlike Batman Vs. Superman
which to my understanding will serve to anchor the DCCU) is a good decision
since the Flash has a story and cast of characters that can really do well with
a movie lenghth story and budget. Likewise, there are aspects of the Flash
character and world that haven’t been touched on by the TV series. Depending on
how they go about it, it could be a really good superhero flick, or could be
completely boring. Only time (and DC/Warner’s commitment) will tell.
