Furious 7 Review

I’ll start the review off with a disclaimer: I’ve never been a fan of Fast and the Furious. That is also to say
Dwayne Johnson
A poster that looks normal.

that I’ve never been a “hater” either. The original movie didn’t leave a big impression on me. Maybe it was because I’m not a car guy? Maybe because I didn’t care about racing outside of a few things? Either way, I have no attachment to this franchise. In fact, I find that whenever a advertisement for this film aired, I would begin questioning how and why we are at a seventh installment? Alas, I digress.

Furious 7 stars Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, and the late Paul Walker as they fight Deckard Shaw, the older brother of their former nemesis, who is out for revenge. The crew takes up an offer from the government in which they rescue a computer programmer in exchange for help fighting Shaw. Yup, pretty much a standard action movie plot. It is essentially the same plot seen in dozens of Hollywood action spectacles since the late 1960’s. Wait! We can’t forget the gimmick of this franchise, cars! It’s as though you took Speed Racer and removed anything nice from it and instead inserted a typical slew of special effects and action movie clichés. Which I guess doesn’t sound all that bad if you generally like that.

Car movie
Yup. This is what this movie is all about!
This movie is primarily about stunts, explosions, and action. It is a spectacle; nothing more, nothing less. Sure, there’s an ongoing plot in the film, but all in all, you do not watch this for the plot. However, I have a major problem. The fight choreography is lacking in some scenes, yet fun to watch in others. Overall, Dwayne Johnson was a blast to watch. Unfortunately, his scenes really were the only ones that I found enjoyable. Otherwise, the action, the main draw, just didn’t strike a chord with me.

In general, I think that if you are a fan of this franchise, you’re really going to like this movie. If you love absurd and outrageous to the point of comical action movies, this is probably movie of the year for you. However, if you want something a little more grounded or adult, then I suggest that you stay away and spend your ticket/rental money elsewhere.

Check out the Official trailer below! Also I hate that jumping punch scene!
